The foundation of his illustrious career was laid at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he was awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, setting the stage for a journey marked by creativity, strategic vision, and impactful storytelling.
His foray into the professional world saw him making significant contributions at ESPN, where his innovative design solutions not only enhanced the brand’s storytelling capabilities but also garnered him two prestigious Sports Emmy Awards. His creative prowess shone brightly through his work on the “This is SportsCenter” campaign, demonstrating his unique ability to weave compelling narratives through visual design.
Seeking to broaden his creative horizons, Mikulec ventured into the bustling creative scene of Los Angeles with Troika Design Group. There, his visionary approach was pivotal in redefining the brand identities of major networks such as the CW and MTV, as well as contributing to the memorable NBC logo for the 2008 Olympic Games, affirming his role as a leading figure in entertainment branding.
His creative journey then took an international turn in Rome, where, at Frame by Frame, he led projects that spanned Europe and the Middle East. This phase of his career not only diversified his portfolio but also deepened his appreciation and understanding of global design languages, further enriching his creative outlook.
The pursuit of academic excellence led him to Yale University, where he attained a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. It was here that he undertook the prestigious project of designing the Fenway Park 100th Anniversary Logo, showcasing his ability to create iconic and enduring visual symbols.
Upon his return to the United States, Michael Mikulec played a crucial role in establishing Frame by Frame’s New York office, where his leadership and creative insight contributed to numerous high-profile projects, reinforcing his reputation as a creative luminary. His commitment to nurturing the next generation of designers saw him returning to SCAD, where he imparted his knowledge and experience, underscoring his dedication to education and mentorship.
As an independent Creative/Art Director and Designer, he now leverages his vast experience to explore new creative frontiers, continually pushing the boundaries of design.
